Memorial Day BBQ Shopping List

Don’t think that just because you’re going to be busy BBQ hopping this weekend you can’t eat clean.  You can bring some of your own dishes if you are attending, but if you are hosting here are some clean-eating ideas to prep for all your friends!

Chicken breast sandwiches.. no skin.. just the breast meat.  Use some spice or a marinade that doesn’t contain sugar or corn syrup.

99% fat free turkey burgers.. loaded with fat free cheese, mustard, lettuce and tomato.. on whole wheat buns of course!

Shrimp & scallops or any kind of fish.

Kabobs!!!  Use Shrimp, scallops, chicken.. whatever.. and add some onion, chopped green & red peppers for more flavor.

Deviled eggs.. instead of using all 12 yolks to make the “deviled” part, just use 3 or 4 and rather than mayo, use fat free cottage cheese.  Add as you’d like for consistency and taste.

Baked sweet potatoes… add cinnamon.. hold the butter.

Grilled veggies.  Put veggies of your choice in tin foil shaped like a bowl.. throw some olive oil and garlic on them and let them sit on the top shelf of the grill to cook.. they’ll be a huge hit!

Grilled corn on the cob.  I don’t know a better way to cook it.

Regular salads.  Or fruit salads.  Lots of fruit 🙂 yum.

Just watch out for dessert.  Try to load up on all the GOOD stuff so you don’t even have room for dessert.  But if you must make a cheese cake with fat free cream cheese.  Or make some no bake cookies.  Or try the recipe I posted for the pumpkin-devils food cake cupcakes.  Or serve more fruit with fat free cool whip!  We can all get through it with some will power.  Or go ahead find yourself an accountability partner like your best friend, husband, girlfriend, sister, mother, or Sparkfriend that you text with… Someone you can text, call or go talk to that can help you not to be weak.  Is it really worth the guilt you’ll feel after?  Go back and get another serving of fruit 🙂
