With the onset of Spring and warm weather across America also brings the abundance of boot camps. Boot camps are organized fitness groups that meet early in the morning before work, or after work, in a public area such as a park or a community recreation area, led by a coach or trainer. These usually run for 6 – 8 weeks, meeting as many as 5 days a week. You will be working with others from your neighborhood getting through grueling workouts that include exercises such as sprints, pushups, planks, etc.

There are so many wonderful benefits to boot camp style workouts. I know so many people who say they are having the hardest time losing those last 5 – 10 pounds. These workouts are PERFECT for you. For those folks who are already in shape this is great because there’s little rest between sets so your heart rate stays elevated the whole 60 – 90 minute workout, thus burning fat the entire workout. It’s also great because you have a coach there who will push you to try your best and work your hardest, something that a lot of people have trouble doing on their own. For fitness beginners boot camps are awesome because you may now know what to do at the gym. Sure, it’s easy to go and head straight to an elliptical or to a cardio kickboxing class, but when it comes to weight training, you are clueless. But at a boot camp you can learn so many things to continue doing in your fitness journey that will really help you see definition. And it’s cheaper than hiring a personal trainer. You may not get that one on one attention, but you do have someone there to guide you. not to mention it being fun and you can meet others with similar interests as well! When you workout at a boot camp you never have to think about what you should do at the gym that day.. you just go and the workout is already created for you!

If you are new to working out it might be a good idea to run this by your doctor or health care professional to make sure you are ready for this kind of physical activity. It’s okay to take it slowly. Not everyone can handle the same exercise. Do only what your body can handle and build up slowly. The fact that you are even going is a step in the right direction!

To find a boot camp in your area do a Google search, ask around and keep your eyes peeled. A lot of times you will see signs for them on your drive.

I’m going to put a few of my girlfriends through a bootcamp starting this month actually. It’s called “Bootycamp!!” If you want to check out the video preview, CLICK HERE

I have seen some adds for bootcamps in the area lately. I think I might look into it. I am definitely one that needs some instruction so this would probably be good for me. Thanks Kyra! I wish I lived close to you so I could join your bootycamp 🙂 ~ Leslie
